HOLIDAY GREETINGS FROM LAKEPORT
I know, I know, you have not heard from the Green's for six months. Well for one thing, we have been very busy.
Beginning with May, we spent the month at Crescent City being docents at the Battery Point Lighthouse. What a kick that was. We parked the coach in an RV park in town and made our way to our shifts according to the tide.. The lighthouse sits on an isthmus so is really an island when the tide is in. Bob loved taking tourists to the tower and telling them all about what they could see from there. I gave tours of the lower two rooms and took care of the gift shop. The lighthouse keepers gave the tour of the two upstairs bedroom, one of which was theirs. They lived there full time.
Then we were on hand for high school graduations of two of our grandchildren. Bobby, was on Friday afternoon in Albany, CA followed by a reception at home.
The other on was at 9:00 A.M. Saturday morning, for Rachel, in Grass Valley, CA about 2 1/2 hours away, it was tight but we made it. There was a party at her home afterwards. From there we went down the valley to Kernville to a workcamping job in an RV park. We were there from June 15 through the Labor Day weekend. It was hot mostly but the mountains above (high Sierras) were beautiful and cool. We survived a forest fire of about 16 thousand acres that started about one mile from the campsite.
Then we drove up to Lakeport and moved in to a "stick house" again. It is a two-bedroom bungalow just the right size for us and a place at the side of the driveway for our coach. We have been here for three months and loving it. We have a great church community, we can walk nearly everywhere we need to go, we have found part time jobs and we plan to be here at least of each year.
Future plans include another two-month stay with our kids in Bogota, Colombia during May and June. The plan is for Bob and all three boys to go on a week-long deep sea fishing trip together. They are all looking forward to it. Felicia (Jade's wife) and I will go to be with Cherie (Kelly's wife) for that week. Then Jade and Felicia will come back home, we will stay there and Forrest's plans have not been firmed up yet.
Beyond that, we don't know yet. Bob would like to go to Alaska for the summer of 2012. We'll see! For now we are happy here in our little house with our great church friends. Hope you are all having good times this holiday season. In case you are wondering, our address is: 510 Clearlake Ave., Lakeport, CA 95453. Phone (land lined) is (707) 263-6871. Our e-mail, Texas address and cell phones remain the same.
We love you,
Diana and Bob

Highlights of April-May, 2010 in California
April 10 found us in Vallejo for a "Night on the Town" with old friends from University Christian Church in Berkeley to celebrate Diana's birthday. It was such great fun to see everyone.
A quick trip to Santa Cruz for doctors and such and then to Lakeport before heading to Crescent City for the month of May. We are still here and volunteering as docents at the Battery Point Lighthouse. We hope the pictures can convey the wild beauty of this northern California coast.
On our days off we have taken several side trips that include:
1) The Avenue of the Giants (a 32 mile drive through the magnificent redwoods)
2) Saw huge herd of wild elk that are so tame we could get close enough to take pictures.
3) Drove through the small Victorian town of Ferndale tucked away off the Highway 101 started in the mid 1850's.
4) A jet-boat, 104 mile trip, on the Rogue River Mail Boat. What scenery and lots of wildlife, fabulous.
We have two grandchildren graduating high school the second weekend of June. Bobby Green from Albany High School and Rachel Green from Nevada Union in Grass Valley, California. From there we go to an RV park in Kernville on the Kern River out of Bakersfield for the rest of the summer. We will send a blog from there.

Since We Landed In Arizona This Year
The first week of January found us heading west (through/in between) the winter storms across Oklahoma, Texas & New Mexaco. Lucked out with just a little rain.
Since then we have taken a couple of trips of interest. We still have not fully explored the things to see in Southeastern Arizona. So, we went to Tombstone. Now everyone should go to Tombstone once, and actually that will probably be enough. Here are a couple of pictures just to tempt you.
Then the next day we drove to the Kartchner Caverns. Now there is something really worth seeing. No one is allowed to take pictures inside the caverns, so here is a picture of the entrance and also a picture of an exhibit taken inside The Caverns are amazing and a MUST SEE if you are in the Tuscon/Benson area.
A week or so later we went to a state park south of Tempe called Boyce Thompson Arboretium. It is referred to as an Arizona oasis. It is the oldest and largest botanical garden in the state with 3200 different desert plans on 323 acres. Although there is always something in bloom, we want to return later in the spring when much more will be showing color.
On Sunday, February 7th, we went to the local county fair grounds to see the Southern Arizona Gourd festival. It is amazing what artists can do with gourds. They carve, woodburn, paint & add media (mixed media) to make incredible pieces of art. Bob took lots of picftures a couple included here.
Then, friends from California came to see us and they wanted to take us to see the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. It was an all day trip and lots of walking but worth every minute. We saw wolves, bob cats, havelinas and road runners to list just a few of the animals that live in the museum. There were lots of cactus in the gardens and a hummingbird aviary.
During the month of March we will again work at Spring Training of the Los Angeles Angels at Anaheim located at the Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, AZ. So unless there is something out of the ordinary, we will blog again when we get to California in April.

BALLOONS BALLOONS BALLOONS!!!
As promised, here is our blogspot from the week at the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. It's one of those events that must be seen to be believed. We went to the event with our Escapee RV Club making all the arrangements. We got a front row parking space near an empty field. One morning about 14 balloons launched right there so they were up close and personal as the saying goes.
Two days were devoted to the "special shapes" at the official launch field. The regular ones launched elsewhere. One of those evenings was the "glow" of special shapes--see pictures. They are inflated on the field, tied down and then the burners light up the insides. Makes quite a show.
The night scheduled for the regular balloons's "glow" didn't happen because about the time half of them were inflated the wind came up so hard the event was canceled. However, they went ahead with the fireworks display which was absolutely the best we have ever seen anywhere.
Enjoy Bob's pictures, he has selected around a dozen out of the 450 he took. We are on our way to Springfield, Missouri where we will manage a Holiday Gift Center for See's Candies in a local mall during November and December. Will try to send a blog from there but not the candy.
Enjoy the holiday season! Life is good!
Love,
Diana and Bob

Two Months in Bogota
In mid-July we left Arizona heat and
Flew way down south to Bogota.
It was nearly 9,000 feet, we could hardly breathe,
Which were in the process of change.
From covered with carpet to covered with wood
It did the whole schedule re-arrange.
Juan Jose's school is behind their back fence,
Bi-lingual and Christian in nature.
We volunteered time and spoke only English
For which they seemed very grateful.
The taxi and bus rides are something to experience,
Like in Disneyland they were but not on a track,
Never more than six inches--side to side.
A city of 9 million or more souls.
Up an 11,000 foot mountain with lunch at the top,
and to the Gold Museum with lots of gold bowls.
Then we went with the kids on a two-week vacation
To the seashore on the Carribean side.
It was hot, it was humid, but at last we could breathe,
Sand castles were built in the soft and wet sand,
Evening folk dances for guests to enjoy.
The food was superb, with plenty of tanning
By the pools, and other resort amenities did employ.
Kelly made it happen, as the day did diminsh.
Cherie and Juan Jo both had birthdays while we were there
As always, it's good to get back to our home,
We had been worried it would melt in the heat.
But we had "summerized" it well and all was o.k.
All in all, we say, "Colombia was neat."
All in all, we say, "Colombia was neat."
Next week to Albuquerque, to see the Balloon Festival,
We will do a blog with pictures from there.
Hope your summer went well and until the next time,
Hiway Hilton sends you love, hugs and care.
