Hiway Hilton Blogspot #2, 2006
Two & a Half Months in Texas
I'ts been 2 1/2 months since we wrote to you
From February one to April fifteen.
It was spent mostly in South-eastern Texas
At the Care Center in Livingston, we've been.
We were volunteers in sort of a nursing home,
A program for Escapees, unique.
A place to live in one's rig and be cared for
When it's time to retire and bones start to creak.
We worked in the kitchen and drove folks to their doctors,
We assisted in whatever ways that were needed.
We did fund-raisers to benefit the Center,
The "garage" sale expectations exceeded.
One of the weeks during that time-frame,
We drove down to the Louisiana Gulf Coast.
Met up with friends from California,
Helped with cleanup and repairs for the most.
It seemed such a drop-in-the-bucket against
The need that just goes on, on and on.
But they told us for whatever's done they are grateful,
They felt blessed, we did too, when we were done.
Our winter volunteer days now are over,
Time to go north for the summer to stay.
Such a beautiful spring on the road up
With all he flowers in bloom on the way.
Easter morning found us in the country in Georgia,
We found a Disciples church in which to worship and pray.
We were warmly received, we were warmly embraced,
We found ourselves thinking we could stay.
On we went through Carolinas (South & North), up to Virginia,
On thru Maryland, into Pennsylvania again.
Back to familiar country from last summer,
New York to Massachusetts we did wend.
Now we're in Greenfield for the summer
At the West Winds Inn B & B.
We'll be here their entire open season,
Working and taking short trips to see,
All the things here in "old" New England,
In Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine,
Down to Boston, Cape Cod and the coastlines
Short trips out and then back home again.
We work three days a week at the West Winds,
Diana cooks and Bob mows the lawn.
We expect it to be a great summer,
By November we'll be through and long gone.
LIFE IS GOOD
