Hiway Hilton Message #6 From Boise to Moab:
Twelve days were spent seeing family
And friends in the valley we know the best.
But my, how it's changed in the past twenty-five years
Finding familiar places became a big test.
Bob's sister, Mel, was about to start a new job,
Richard, her husband, can't keep up with his old one.
My brother, Larry and his wife Sandy, were excited
To greet a new grandchild, Torry's son.
While I went to one lunch with a bunch of school friends,
And another with "girl cousins" galore,
Bob helped son, Forrest, build a fence at his rental,
We just never know what is in store.
We bid fond farewell to our home of the past
And started again down the road.
Destination this time was the parks in Utah
Via Hiway Hilton and its little green toad.
A campground in Moab gave us a base
For three days of great exploration.
The first was in Arches, a wondrous spot
With formations of rocks past explanation.
Day number two we went up LaSal Mountain
Then back down to the Colorado River.
Past history gave us an old hanging bridge
And river floaters (in the present) made us shiver.
Day three took us through the desert to Canyonlands
To see "The Needles", a different formation of rock.
We drove through a hailstorm to get there
And saw things that turned back the clock.
"The Newspaper" was a rock full of pictures
Drawn on by folks hundreds of years in the past.
"The Grainery" was a place to store seeds
Under a rock ledge, 800 years it did last.
There was much left to see but we had to move on
In order to make it on time for "The Event."
In Albuquerque we are going to see
What it looks like when 50 years together are spent.
LIFE IS GOOD!!

Message #5: Moscow and Alaska
Nearly four weeks have gone since last we wrote,
We've been on the go all that time!
The first week was spent in a lot of new learnings
About living on wheels on a "dime."
One class was to learn how to budget,
Another to take pictures and write,
Another to learn how to market
Our products, keeping expenses in sight.
We found a place to leave Hiway Hilton,
And drove to Seattle all excited
To board our cruise ship on a Sunday
With our room we were really delighted.
The Norwegian Star was enormous
And all the stories are true about food.
The on-board entertainment was fantastic,
The service from staff, nothing but good.
But the scenery was what we had gone for,
And we weren't disappointed at all.
The first stop was Juneau, the second was Skagway,
Then on huge Glacier Bay we did call.
It took a whole day to sail in and then out,
It was silent, pristine and so cold.
The ice was blue-green with chunks in the water,
Rivers of ice everchanging, we were told.
Next Ketchikan, built on an island,
With salmon fishing/canning boasting its fame.
We had a tour with a local bus driver
Who told stories of before it became tame.
Victoria, the last stop, always beautiful,
MY favorite: pots of flowers on the light posts.
The Empress Hotel and the Parliament Building
On the bay, play the long-time, most elegant hosts.
Leaving Seattle to see family and friends
In Snohomish and then in Spokane,
Going back to our own Hiway Hilton
To continue the journey again.
Until now and so far, "things are ducky,"
Things have worked as well as they could,
As onward we go down to Boise,
Still saying our mantra LIFE IS GOOD.
Later,
Diana and Bob
