Message #3 from the Hiway Hilton:

Out of Eugene with a full tank of gas,
Traveling slowly up the McKenzie hiway.
Up through the mountains and over "The Sisters",
"Inactive volcanos" on this beautiful biway.

Mt. Washington first and later Mt. Jefferson,
On to Madras for a view of Mt. Hood.
The scene changes fast to the high desert plain
And large "Opal Springs" makes farming good.

On to the Fairgrounds for Good Sams' Samboree
Where we registered for space E-Eighty One.
There were all kinds of events and new friends to meet,
So that everyone there could have fun.

Most touching was called Golden Wed Jubilee
Where about 35 couples were honored.
Two couples married for 65 years,
Can you imagine how far they have journeyed? (I know it doesn't rhyme).

Church today was in the arena
The Salem Singers came from Salem to sing.
Their gospel songs rang from the rafters,
Good cheer to our hearts they did bring.

It's been a good week here in Madras,
Another we'll spend seeing sights.
A trip planned to Redmond and then to Mt. Hood,
It is snow-capped with dizzying heights.

By the end of the month, we will be on our way
To Pendleton for an adventure in mission.
We'll meet up with folks that we already know,
Message four will come then: our decision.

Send us a note--we love you all.

Bob and Diana

Message #2

We've just spent the week in Eugene Oregon
It certainly went by very fast.
Bob mowed lots of lawns in his four days of work
With our friends the McCools, from our past.

I did the laundry, picked berries and cooked,
There was some time left over for play.
Mostly it was pinochle, some movies too,
They really would like us to stay.

We had lunch at the home of another old friend
Who lives in a "clothes optional" park.
We saw no one out because it was raining,
The whole afternoon was really a lark.

It's time to move on, so to Madras we go
To attend our first Samboree.
We don't rightly know just what to expect
But what the heck, we'll just wait and see.

By this time next week, we can tell you about it,
So tune in to see if you would.
We're grateful and thankful for this wonderful time
As we still proclaim: LIFE IS GOOD.

Until next time, Love, Diana and Bob

Message #1 From the HIWAY HILTON June 6, 2004

We were loved and blessed from Garfield Church
As we set out upon our way.
We were roasted and toasted and fed very well
Many "thanks" is all we can say.

We were loved and blessed again from the Village
As they waved us off on that day.
They wined us and dined us and gifted us too,
Many "thanks" is all we can say.

Our friend, Dick Immel, helped name the coach
When he said "It's like the Hilton Hotel."
So the name came alive at the start of the drive,
Hiway Hilton, its stories will tell.

Watch for an e-mail to announce a new message,
We'll try to put out one each week.
This first one is written on the way to Eugene
"On to Oregon," our version, so to speak.

Redding was hot, Mt. Shasta was cook,
The hills were a beautiful green.
Bob does the driving, the Hilton rides smoothly,
No glitches, so far, have been seen.

Each message will end as the one just before
With a phrase we thought that we should:
Let every moment, every hour of each day,
Be savored and pronounce LIFE IS GOOD!
